Scene.
A crunchy tiger, two doppelgangers and a curious female-asian-blogger loiter on the sixth floor of a newly reinstated shopping complex.
They glance furtively at the drawn curtains and closed door of their destination. A sign adorns the handle: “Closed for private function”.
They are early. They are hungry.
“I’ll go see what’s happening” says the FAB, when suddenly a voice emerges from the now ajar door.
“Are you in the mood… for love?”
“I’m in the mood for a drink to be honest” says the doppelganger (or was it the other?)

“Y’know what’s even better than mamak for supper? Mamak for dinner.”
It seems so long ago since that evening (and that tweet). I can hardly believe that almost two months have passed since I boarded a plane from Malaysia back home and away from the food, the smells, the shopping and my giant extended family. So humor me, if you will, as I post sporadically about my trip. Because sharing it with all of you makes it real again, somehow.

Ever wonder why this crazy Malaysian girl’s food blog has hardly any Malaysian food recipes on it?
It’s because I’m a terrible Malaysian cook.
Actually, let’s rephrase that. It’s because my mother is an absolutely amazing Malaysian cook – and I’m often far too terrified to cook anything that is familiar to her, because I’ll inevitably sit there at the end of it all, poking at my food and wishing I’d let her cook instead.
