high tea at the loft

October 2nd, 2009

I am not the kind of girl that many would call “polished”. I am trying though – donning the occasional dress, wearing neutral coloured pumps, pinning my hair up and sweeping my lashes with mascara. And, I must admit, it’s kinda fun. Not the same kind of fun one can have when decked out in shorts, high tops and a t-shirt, with hair bundled into what-was-once-a-ponytail, but fun nonetheless.

My best friend Miss Shiny, on the other hand, is far more polished than I’ll ever be. Curls neatly in place. Patterned stockings set off against a 1950′s style skirt that nips in at the waist and finishes with a bow. Cropped coats and a dab of lipstick. I can’t wear lipstick even when I try.

Throw me a pity party because oh! I’m Sick! A tickle in the throat and a couple of aberrant sneezes have morphed into a head clogging, eye watering, chest gunking, throat hacking illness – and I, in turn, have turned into a sad, helpless little thing that looks at stairs as if they were the Himalayas.

To make sure it was the food that had me bouncing off walls and grinning at passers-by, and not just the euphoria that comes with being let out of the office and into the sunshine on a Friday. Poor Geoffers (and for some reason, he’s always referred to as Poor Geoffers whenever lunch is the topic of conversation) had missed out last time, and so plans were made. The agenda this time? To try as much of the rest of the menu as we could in one sitting. The outcome? Well…

miss chu (part 1)

August 17th, 2009

It all started with a call from M. “There’s this place here, in the paper, that we need to go to. See what you can find out about it.” I was hesitant. If it’s in the papers, it’s usually been done to death… and I was looking for a quiet lunch spot. An undiscovered mecca of deliciousness mixed with a quirky aesthetic and an immediately likeable concept. “Err… I dunno.” I responded. “Look.” said he “I’ll send you the link. Some Strode guy said it’s his favourite place to get rice paper rolls, and the only other place in the article I want to eat at is in Vietnam ok?” Well then! And so, “We’re going.” said I. “Friday. 12:30. Lock and load.” …continue reading miss chu (part 1)
