It’s a well known fact that an onslaught of the dreaded lurgy calls for nothing less thanĀ a big bowl of chicken soup.
Full of nature’s own goodness. Delicious. Warming. And most of all, made with the kind of love that gladly suffers fingers smelling of garlic and chickeny juices long after the last bowl has been downed.
Cleansing. Energising. Heartening.

3. Learn to cook like my mother.”
I stared at the list in front of me, half-wondering if I should succumb to reality and toss it out before I was forced to admit defeat, or if I should give it a go. Just this time. Just this year.

It was upon me before I even saw it coming.
Sydney International Food Festival (fondly known as SIFF) has replaced what was once called Good Food Month, and with the name change has come a plethora of brand new events and offers for those lucky enough to live in (or be visiting) Sydney during October. Among the new arrivals? The World Chef Showcase, which was held this last weekend at the Star City Conference Rooms.

Certified toe-sucker. That’s me. And hoi! You! Get your mind out of the gutter! The only toes I’m sucking belong to a chicken. Multiple chickens maybe. Skinned, chopped off at the knee and braised in a sweet and salty black bean sauce. Mmmyum!
It was the Saturday before Father’s Day when the family & I decided to descend upon Chequers. We’d usually head out to Rhodes, but there were things to do, places to be and assignments to complete (the sister, not me). And besides, it had been a while since our last visit, a couple of years in fact, and we were curious to see how time had affected this once lauded joint.
