and so it begins…
“When was the last time you cooked something Cheh?”
My father looked at me quizzically from across the kitchen, where I’d been guiltily stuffing my mouth full of cherries.
“Erm…” I said, trying not to choke on the stones “last week?”
“I don’t think so.” said he.
I caught a bit of juice that had threatened to escape in vampiresque torrents down the side of my mouth.
“Two weeks ago?”
A head shake.
That’s when I realised it had probably been closer to a month.
To be fair, I’d not been home much, what with that trip up to Cairns, those projects at work, a tummy bug, a million and one summer gatherings and that influx of weddings.
(Don’t ever underestimate the amount of time a wedding takes.)
(Even if it isn’t your wedding.)
(Especially if there’s three of them happening in two months… and you’re involved in all of them.)
I didn’t stop eating though! There were trips galore – but this time around, I left my camera in my bag. And then at home. And then forgot about it altogether and just. Ate.
Savoured the flavours without figuring out which angle the food looked best at first.
Used my fingers without worrying about it translating to sticky shutter buttons.
Ordered the same thing as everyone else was having. Without writing the price down. Or the description.
And when I did start the cooking again, it was simple. Shared. Satisfying.
So satisfying, even, that the recipe I managed to lose the recipe I’d planned on posting tonight. A boozy chocolatey christmas pudding, in case you were wondering.
As for now, I’m regathering. Getting my beaters ready and wiping down my countertops.
*deep breath*
Here we go…

6 bites more on “and so it begins…”
I totally understand how you feel with time flying by! Palm Cove looked stunning, my friend recently went there as well! Anyway, looking forward to some tasty new posts!
ugh weddings! I think I have a run of them this year….
whee! a new post! wheeee!
You had fun! Lots of it…
Do it. Do it because you love food and want to share that love in a brimming altruistic gesture. Do it because you know in your heart it is what you must.
Do it…for glory. And orgasmic tastings. But mostly glory.
come back shez!! come back!!
