hatted nibbles
It’s hard to tell, sometimes, whether one is going to be fed at a function. Do you eat something quickly beforehand and risk wasting stomach space? Or do you risk breaking an awkward silence with the ever-so-identifiable growl of a stomach before rushing out at the end to hit up your closest eatery (usually either Chinatown, Macca’s or a kebab store by the time most events are done).
At this particular event, we were told that there would be “hatted nibbles” – a term I was unfamiliar with. And its meaning? Honey’d peanuts in a sticky mound. Puff pastry parcels. Filo pastry wrapped seafood. Felafel-esque balls. An unidentifiable canape.
And oh-my-goodness-so-much-love: sardines on toast.
If there was a plate of those I would have snuck into a corner and eaten them one briney sweet mouthful at a time. All. Night.
But there wasn’t so (when all was done and dusted) we headed to I-San Thai.
Now I can’t be the only one. So tell me, have you ever headed to a function with little to no idea about what (or if) you would be eating?

Yeah ‘function’ is a very unclear when it comes to food isn’t it? I usually ask and confirm what sort of food exactly they’d serve though. lol and I don’t mind popping in post-function meal and dessert!
I think Yas meant “I don’t mind popping in a pre AND post function meal and dessert
”
hee hee yeah I say go in empty to maximise the possibility, if not then there is always after… just make sure it’s close by haha
I always take nibbles to mean that I’ll probably be hungry later, and prepare accordingly
@Yas: I keep finding myself doing that! But it means that instead of getting home at 9pm, I’m getting home at half past eleven. Zzzzzz!
@FFichiban: Close by is a big issue huh? Will we ever learn?
@Y: Probably for the best, but I’m always too hopeful!
